A Bladder Training Schedule You Can Follow
A bladder training schedule starts by delaying each trip about 10 minutes, then builds toward passing urine every 2.5-3.5 hours. NICE advises at least 6 weeks of training for urgency; Cleveland Clinic lists 6-8 weeks. It suits urgency and frequency, and it needs no capsule. Keep a diary first.

The method
What is a bladder training schedule?
A bladder training schedule is a plan to retrain the bladder to hold more and signal later. You go to the toilet on a clock, not on every urge.
NICE advises bladder training for at least 6 weeks for urgency or mixed leaks (NICE NG123, incontinence in women). The AUA 2024 guideline rates behavioral therapy and bladder training as a strong recommendation for all women with overactive bladder, at Grade A (AUA/SUFU 2024, OAB guideline).
The method does not shrink the need to pass urine. It teaches the brain to wait, a little at a time.
No capsule is part of this method, and no study of the FemiCore capsule shows it speeds anything up.
The plan
How do you build a bladder training schedule?
You build it by delaying, stretching and then fixing a rhythm. Mayo Clinic begins with a delay of about 10 minutes and works toward a trip every 2.5 to 3.5 hours (Mayo Clinic, incontinence treatment).
Keep a diary
Record drinks, trips and leaks for at least 3 days to see your starting point.
Delay by 10 minutes
When the urge comes, wait calmly, breathe and squeeze the pelvic floor, then go.
Add time
Stretch the gap a little each week as it becomes comfortable.
Hold the rhythm
Aim for scheduled trips every 2 to 4 hours, whether or not you feel the urge.
When an urge hits, stop where you are, sit if you can and breathe slowly. Rushing to the door tends to feed the urge. Squeezing the pelvic floor, as in the exercises Mayo describes (Mayo Clinic, Kegel exercises), gives your mind something to do while you wait.
Go slowly. A week with no progress is not failure, only a pause on the same step.
A day
What does a day on a bladder training schedule look like?
A day has planned trips, spaced drinks and short pelvic floor sets. The dial below shows one pattern.
- Morning: capsule and a glass of water
The label pairs the capsule with 6-8 oz of water. Any fixed time works; medicines keep their own schedule.
- Drinks through the day, easy on caffeine
Alcohol and caffeine can make urges worse; NICE suggests a trial of less caffeine for an overactive bladder.
- Planned bathroom trips
Bladder training stretches the gap step by step, toward every 2.5 to 3.5 hours; scheduled trips run every 2 to 4 hours.
- Three pelvic floor sets
At least 8 squeezes, 3 times a day, for at least 3 months, ideally checked by a trained therapist.
- Night: count the trips
Waking more than twice a night to pass urine is one sign of an overactive bladder worth raising with a clinician.
Habits from NICE and Mayo Clinic guidance on bladder control (NICE NG123, incontinence in women) (Mayo Clinic, incontinence treatment) (AUA/SUFU 2024, OAB guideline) (Mayo Clinic, overactive bladder). The capsule time is a suggestion; follow your label and your clinician.
Drink normally across the day, and do not cut fluids to avoid trips. Less caffeine is worth trying for overactive bladder, as NICE and the AUA both note (NICE NG123, incontinence in women). Alcohol is worth limiting too.
Write the plan on paper. A simple list of target times, such as every two hours at first, removes the daily guesswork, and ticking each one off gives you proof of progress.
Night trips are tracked the same way. Waking more than twice a night is one sign doctors count in overactive bladder (Mayo Clinic, overactive bladder).

How long does a bladder training schedule take?
Plan on 6 to 8 weeks before you judge it. Cleveland Clinic lists bladder training for 6 to 8 weeks in overactive bladder (Cleveland Clinic, overactive bladder), and NICE sets a 6-week minimum.
| Stage | Goal |
|---|---|
| Week 0 | 3-day diary, no changes yet |
| Weeks 1-2 | Delay each urge by about 10 minutes |
| Weeks 3-6 | Lengthen the gap, fix the rhythm |
| Weeks 6-8 | Review the diary with a clinician |
Expect some days to go badly. A late meeting, a cold or a poor night of sleep can break the pattern, and you simply restart the step the next day. The weeks are a guide and not a deadline. Some people move faster, and some need to repeat a stage twice. What matters is that the diary shows longer gaps and fewer leaks over time.
Pair it with pelvic floor sets; our pelvic floor training guide shows how.
Help
When is a bladder training schedule not enough?
It is not enough if burning, fever, blood in the urine or flank pain appear. Those point to infection and need prompt care (CDC, About UTIs).
Ask a clinician too if you cannot empty your bladder or if leaks continue past 8 weeks. Keep taking prescribed medicine throughout.
If you want a capsule beside the plan, the results timeline explains realistic expectations. The sales page shows $79 a bottle on two, $69 on three and $49 on six.

FAQ
Bladder training questions, answered
What if I cannot wait the full 10 minutes?
Start with whatever delay you can manage, even 2 or 3 minutes, and add time slowly. The 10 minutes is a target, not a test.
Should I limit fluids during bladder training?
No. Drink normally and spread drinks through the day. Trying less caffeine is advised for overactive bladder, but water is not restricted.
Can bladder training work with medicine?
Yes. The AUA guideline discusses medicines after behavioral therapy is offered. Never stop a prescribed medicine without talking to your doctor.
Is a timed toilet schedule the same as bladder training?
They are related. Timed voiding sets fixed trips, while bladder training also lengthens the gap over weeks. Cleveland Clinic describes both.
