Ingredient

Lactobacillus Crispatus Supplement Strain LCr86: Line 1 of FemiCore's Probiotic Blend

Quick answer

A Lactobacillus crispatus supplement delivers a named strain of a bacterium that often leads a healthy vaginal flora. In FemiCore it is LCr86, first of five strains in a 50 mg blend, so label order caps it at 50 mg by weight. No CFU count is printed. Its one registered trial, oral and vaginal-focused, has posted no results.

On the label

What is a Lactobacillus crispatus supplement, and where is it in FemiCore?

A Lactobacillus crispatus supplement is a product that contains one or more named strains of L. crispatus, a lactic acid bacterium. In many women it is the main resident of a healthy vaginal flora (Ravel et al. 2011, vaginal microbiome).

FemiCore lists it as "Lactobacillus crispatus LCr86". It is line 1 of 5 in the Probiotic Blend, printed right under the 350 mg Herbal Blend. Being first means it is the heaviest of the five strains by weight (21 CFR 101.36, supplement labeling).

The label gives no single amount and no CFU count. The profile below sets what is printed next to the research.

Strain code

What does the strain code LCr86 mean?

LCr86 is the strain code, the third part of the name after genus and species. It marks one particular isolate of L. crispatus, the way a seed catalog names one variety of tomato rather than tomatoes in general.

That third part does the real work: a result for one strain cannot be assumed for another, even within one species (NCCIH, Probiotics) (NIH ODS, Probiotics).

Reading the name in three parts

  • Lactobacillus: the genus, a large group of rod-shaped lactic acid bacteria
  • crispatus: the species within that group
  • LCr86: the strain, owned and coded by its supplier

The registered trial lists Wecare Probiotics as the sponsor of the LCr86 strain (ClinicalTrials.gov NCT06830122, LCr86). The label does not say who supplied the culture for FemiCore.

How much

How much L. crispatus LCr86 is in one FemiCore capsule?

At most 50 mg by weight, and possibly much less. LCr86 is first of five lines in a 50 mg blend, so the label order lets it be anything from a sliver up to the whole blend.

Weight is the weaker number for a culture. NIH notes that a probiotic's printed weight includes dead cells, and that the figure to look for is a CFU count stated at the end of shelf life (NIH ODS, Probiotics). FemiCore prints no CFU count, so the number of live LCr86 cells in a capsule is unknown.

Picture two jars of yogurt starter, one fresh and one left in a hot car for a month. They weigh the same; only one still works.

Five strains

How does LCr86 compare with FemiCore's other four strains?

LCr86 is the only one of the five FemiCore strains with a registered human trial we could find. The other four turned up no published strain-level study in our October 2026 search.

Their ceilings fall from 25 mg to 10 mg down the list. The four are covered together on FemiCore's other probiotic strains.

Strain codeLCr86

A probiotic's effect belongs to the strain, the code after the species name, not to the species in general (NCCIH, Probiotics) (NIH ODS, Probiotics). Two strains of one species can behave differently, so research on "L. crispatus" in general does not transfer to LCr86.

The five strains in the 50 mg FemiCore probiotic blend, in label order. Weights are label-order ceilings; no CFU count is printed, so the number of live cells is unknown.

Searched October 2026. LCr86 has one completed placebo trial (80 women, 10 billion CFU a day by mouth, 8 weeks, vaginal Nugent score) with no results posted (ClinicalTrials.gov NCT06830122, LCr86). "Lactobacillus" species were renamed in 2020 (for example L. casei is now Lacticaseibacillus casei); labels often keep the old names.

The trial

What did the LCr86 clinical trial test?

The LCr86 trial tested whether 10 billion CFU a day by mouth, for 8 weeks, changed the vaginal Nugent score in 80 women. It compared the strain with a maltodextrin placebo and is listed as completed, with no results posted (ClinicalTrials.gov NCT06830122, LCr86).

A Nugent score is a lab grade read from a vaginal swab under a microscope; middle scores, which the trial enrolled, mean a mixed flora.

It is a narrow question about the vagina, not bladder control, urinary infections or FemiCore. And 10 billion CFU cannot be compared with a capsule that prints only a weight.

Oral or vaginal

Does an oral L. crispatus capsule work like a vaginal one?

Nobody has shown that it does. The clearest L. crispatus result comes from a product placed in the vagina, not swallowed, and it measured bacterial vaginosis, not bladder health.

That product, Lactin-V, is a single vaginal L. crispatus strain. In 228 women treated for bacterial vaginosis, the infection came back within 12 weeks in about 30% of those given Lactin-V and about 45% given placebo (Cohen et al. 2020, Lactin-V trial).

Normal flora also varies: one of five vaginal community types has few lactobacilli, is more common in Black and Hispanic women and is not automatically abnormal (Ravel et al. 2011, vaginal microbiome).

The urinary microbiome basics guide explains what CFU and community types mean in more depth.

Bladder and UTIs

Does L. crispatus help bladder control or urinary infections?

No trial shows it, by mouth or otherwise. NICE's guideline on recurrent UTIs calls the evidence for lactobacillus probiotics inconclusive (NICE NG112, recurrent UTI), and no study we found links LCr86 to leaks or urgency.

The label's "Microbiome Balance" claim carries a dagger to the FDA statement. FemiCore is not a treatment for any infection or for incontinence.

For leaks, supervised pelvic floor training has the strongest evidence of any first step (Cochrane, PFMT for incontinence). For burning, fever or blood in the urine, see a clinician the same day. Keep taking prescribed medicine, including antibiotics, exactly as directed.

Safety and storage

Who should be careful with an L. crispatus probiotic?

People with weakened immunity or a serious illness should ask their care team first. Probiotics have a long record of apparently safe use in healthy people, but infections have been reported, mostly in very sick or immunocompromised patients (NCCIH, Probiotics).

The label adds that pregnant or nursing mothers, anyone under 18 and anyone with a known medical condition should consult a physician first.

Some probiotics need refrigeration (NIH ODS, Probiotics); FemiCore's label asks only for a cool, dry place.

FAQ

L. crispatus LCr86 questions

What does LCr86 stand for in FemiCore?

LCr86 is a strain code, the supplier's label for one particular isolate of Lactobacillus crispatus. The label does not spell out the code, but the registered trial lists Wecare Probiotics as the sponsor of an LCr86 study.

Has the LCr86 strain been tested in women?

Yes, in one registered trial, but no results are posted. Eighty women with intermediate vaginal flora took 10 billion CFU a day by mouth or a placebo for 8 weeks, and the vaginal Nugent score was measured. The record lists the study as completed in January 2026.

Is taking L. crispatus by mouth the same as using it vaginally?

No. A swallowed capsule must pass the stomach and gut, while a vaginal product is placed where the bacteria live. The Lactin-V study that cut BV returns used a vaginal L. crispatus strain. No result yet shows that oral LCr86 reaches or changes the vaginal flora.

How many CFU of L. crispatus are in FemiCore?

Unknown. FemiCore prints no CFU count, only a 50 mg weight for all five strains. LCr86 is first, so it weighs at most 50 mg, but weight includes dead cells. NIH advises looking for a live count stated at the end of shelf life, and this label has none.

Does FemiCore need to be kept in the fridge?

The label does not say so. It asks you to store the bottle in a cool, dry place. Some probiotic products do need refrigeration, so keep FemiCore away from heat and steam, close the cap after each capsule and check the stamped date before you start a bottle.

Is Lactin-V the same strain as FemiCore's L. crispatus?

No study says they are the same, and the products are not alike. Lactin-V is a single L. crispatus strain given vaginally after BV treatment, and it cut returns to about 30% from 45% over 12 weeks. FemiCore's LCr86 is swallowed, sits in a five-strain blend and has no posted result.
